The Indianapolis Colts today will open a three-day rookie minicamp at their Westside training complex, and when they do, there will be eight rookies and almost certainly at least that many rookie free agents.

The draft selections got  a lot of publicity last weekend.

The undrafted rookies got almost none, but the publicity doesn’t matter to Colts President Bill Polian. What matters is there almost certainly will be more than one rookie free agent who not only makes the team, but makes a real impact. History says that’s true, because few teams in the NFL have had the success of the Colts in undrafted rookie free agency.
