If they are willing to bring in guys like the two recently signed LBs (Penn State and goofy name) into camp then Ed getting another shot makes some sense. A TC roster spot isn’t a huge investment.
Shake,
Couldn’t agree more. What’s the risk?
Ed was good. He was just an idiot. Although, if I am with the Colts now, I do have to question the definition of “final chance, one-strike” basis with the team.
Overall, since we now have depth at DT, we can afford to “take a chance” on him. We cut him, and it’s no big deal, unlike last season.
Hopefully this time he gets zero tolerance means ZERO tolerance and/or that speeding while in possession of marijuana is enough to cost him his job.
Considering his prior history, I’d say the odds of him learning that lesson right now are, say, 50/50. Totally worth it for those odds though.
Paul K has a nice (outside) perspective of the signing:

Do y’all think that Johnson will be conditioned enough after his time off to make the roster or get back to his starting caliber play?
Read Luke 15:11-32
Maybe Ed Johnson “came to himself”
I think he was signed early enough in the season to get back into shape and certainly compete for the starting job. He really tore it up while he held the starting job – if he can do that again I don’t think there is any question that he will start.
