When it came to big plays, there were plenty for the Indianapolis Colts in 2009.

Anthony Gonzalez. Peyton Manning. Robert Mathis. Marvin Harrison. Even Eric Foster.

All had a hand in huge plays that helped the Colts to a seventh consecutive postseason appearance, and all were mentioned in a recent list by ColtPower.com Editor Eric Hartz outlining the five biggest plays for the Indianapolis Colts in 2009.

ColtPower.com’s five were:

* A bomb-and-lateral on which Manning threw to Gonzalez, who lateraled to Wayne. The play came against Minnesota in the Metrodome in September and helped set up a come-from-behind, 18-15 Colts victory.

* Any number of plays from a 31-27 come-from-behind victory over Houston in early October.

* A touchdown-saving tackle on third-and-goal from the 1 by Foster in a November victory over Pittsburgh.

* A first-down converting pass from Manning to Harrison on fourth down in the fourth quarter against San Diego in November that set up the game-winning field goal in a 23-20 Colts victory.

* A 37-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Mathis in the fourth quarter of a 10-6 victory at Cleveland in late November.

IFR Analysis: This was a good list and a good idea. Wish I’d thought of it. If I had, I would have included a fourth-quarter pass from Manning to Wayne against the Vikings that I consider one of the best throws of Manning’s career, and I would have specifically included MLB Gary Brackett’s fourth-quarter fumble return against the Texans. I liked the inclusion of Mathis’ fumble return, and I might have switched the San Diego play out to include anything by Manning from the victory over Jacksonville in December. But that’s nit-picking. Good list. Good read. Enjoy.
