Jaguars add offensive tackle

AFC South writer Chris Parchman provided this link to a story on the Jaguars acquiring offensive tackle Tra Thomas.

Read this as a necessary move for a team otherwise in a rebuilding mode. Thomas is 34 and has been in the NFL 11 seasons, but he has been a solid left tackle throughout his career and the Jaguars needed to secure that spot with Khalif Barnes moving on as a free agent. Even though they’re getting younger, they evidently see Thomas as a short-term solution.

By the way, the Jaguars’ situation is exactly why Colts fan need never complain during this current run. Remember a year ago? The Jaguars were touted as an AFC favorite by many and seemed on the cusp of moving past the Colts in the AFC South. A year later, they have spent the offseason parting ways with unproductive one-year-and-out free agents — read: cornerback Drayton Florence and wide receiver Jerry Porter — and are in the midst of getting younger through the draft.

It’s the right move for Jacksonville. It’s also something the Colts have done on the fly for much of the past decade.
