Rumour of the Day . . .

The latest from the blogosphere . . .

The buzz continues to simmer about the report that the Colts will work out Southern California quarterback Mark Sanchez. I’ll be honest: when I was employed by the Colts, I didn’t pore over the internet every day — at least not to the netherregions I’ve been trying to reach into for Indy Football Report. The legs that the casual rumor gets on a daily basis has changed drastically since I left the newspaper game.

One report by a Los Angeles Daily News writer — one sentence — has spawned a litany of “stories,” as everyone with a laptop and a blog (i.e., me) weighs despite not having a clue the Colts’ motivation or thinking. And believe me, I’m not saying I didn’t have a hand in it. I wrote a quick item for Examiner.com and a blurb about it for IFR.  I’m just saying it’s striking the way one un-expanded-upon report can spawn so much speculation and analysis. . . .

The same site, the Bleacher Report, had this to say about Dominic Rhodes possibly re-signing with the Colts . . .

And about the Colts having a “quarterback problem” . . .

And about about Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson possibly joining the Colts . . .

The Chargers offered Tomlinson a restructured contract, according to an ESPN report, and indications are the sides may get a deal done. The Tomlinson-Colts connection is more than just a Bleacher Report thing, but let’s not get excited. Sure, the Colts could use LT, but with cap space a mammoth issue and LT aging, it’s just unlikely.

And lastly, there was this Monday from ESPN’s John Clayton on the Colts’ free agent linebackers. But don’t lump Clayton in with the blogosphere. If he says the Colts have a good chance to retain linebacker Tyjuan Hagler but are likely to lose linebacker Freddy Keiaho, that’s probably the way things are leaning right now.
