Indianapolis Colts DE Keyunta Dawson will play against Seattle Sunday, Head Coach Jim Caldwell said.
Dawson, who missed practice with a foot injury Wednesday, worked Thursday and Friday and Caldwell said Friday morning he will play when the Colts (3-0) play host to the Seattle Seahawks (1-2) at Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m.
Colts Friday news and notes:
* The Friday injury report: Did not participate — LB Gary Brackett (knee, questionable), DE Dwight Freeney (quadriceps, questionable), WR Anthony Gonzalez (knee, out), CB Kelvin Hayden (hamstring, questionable), S Bob Sanders (knee, out), RB Chad Simpson (abdomen, questionable); full participation – Dawson (foot, questionable).
* Freeney is expected to miss Sunday’s game. It has been reported that he will miss 2-to-3 weeks and he has not practiced this week. DE Raheem Brock almost certainly will start in his place, with Dawson working as the backup. The Colts have three available defensive ends: Dawson, Brock and Robert Mathis. Look for Mathis and Brock to start with Dawson in a backup role. DT Eric Foster and LB Philip Wheeler also could contribute at end.
* Hayden almost certainly will miss a second consecutive start. He has not practiced this week after missing last week’s game with a hamstring injury. He said earlier in the week he likely will miss Sunday with the idea of being ready next week. With Hayden likely out, look for Tim Jennings and rookie Jerraud Powers to start with Marlin Jackson playing a backup role. Jennings had three pass breakups in two starts and Powers also has started twice with two breakups.
* Brackett has not practiced this week and is unlikely to play. Four-year veteran Freddy Keiaho is expected to make a second start in the middle.
* If Simpson can’t play Sunday, look for CB T.J. Rushing to fill the kick returner role. He has returned five punts for a 4.2-yard average and last returned kickoffs in 2007, when he averaged 21.0 yards on 31 returns.
