Saturday No. 1

This from the pages — er, html files — of Pro Football Weekly . . .

A column by Matt Sohn ranks the Colts’ re-signing of center Jeff Saturday as the NFL’s best signing of an over-30 player in the current free-agency period. And if that sounds like a backhanded compliment, it’s not. The column makes the point that a ton of teams have made good moves signing older free agents.

I don’t disagree with Sohn. Looking at the list, Saturday’s the safest bet, is likely to play out the three-year contract at a high level and is one of the cores of the team both spiritually and physically — or, in less lofty terms, he’s an important guy on the field and off.
