Indianapolis Colts CB Marlin Jackson likely won’t play against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday night.
The status of Bob Sanders?
That’s still less certain, but the 2007 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year could play.
Jackson and CB Kelvin Hayden, who have missed practice with knee and hamstring injuries this week, probably won’t play in the Colts-Titans AFC South showdown Sunday, Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell said Friday morning. Caldwell said the two are “status quo.”
“The chances of them playing are obviously slim,” Caldwell said as the AFC South-leading Colts (4-0) prepared to play the defending division champion Titans (0-4) at LP Field in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday at 8:20 p.m.
The status of Sanders is a bit harder to pinpoint.
After missing the first four games of the season with a knee injury that kept him on the Physically Unable to Perform list during the preseason, Sanders returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday.
He missed practice Thursday and returned on Friday.
Asked if Sanders would play Sunday, Caldwell said, “I’m not real sure at this point.”
“He’s making good progress,” said Caldwell, who said Sanders came out of practice Wednesday in good shape.
LT Charlie Johnson, who missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with a knee injury sustained this past Sunday, is more day to day than Hayden and Jackson, Caldwell said.
“We’ll see how he does today and tomorrow,” Caldwell said.
Caldwell said if Johnson doesn’t play, third-year LT Tony Ugoh – the starter at the position the last two seasons – will start. He had been inactive last week after tweaking a knee in practice week and Dan Federkeil was on the active roster as a reserve tackle/guard.
Also, Caldwell said the hand injury sustained by RB Joseph Addai in practice Wednesday won’t keep him from practicing or playing.
