Indianapolis Colts CB Marlin Jackson could return Sunday, Head Coach Jim Caldwell said Monday.

The news regarding several other front-line players was less certain a day after the team remained unbeaten with an 18-14, come-from-behind victory over the San Francisco 49ers at Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday.

“There is a chance, but I’m not real certain of that,” Caldwell said of the possibility that Jackson — who has been out three games with a knee injury — will play Sunday when the Colts (7-0) play host to AFC South rival Houston (5-3).

Caldwell said there was little to report on CB Kelvin Hayden, who left Sunday’s game with a concussion, returned, then left with a knee injury. Caldwell said the team would no more sometime Monday or Tuesday.

Caldwell also said the status of WR Anthony Gonzalez (knee) remains uncertain. Gonzalez has been out since Week 1 and worked a bit last week, but did not participate in team drills.

“I’m not sure we’re going to get much out of him this week,” Caldwell said of Gonzalez. “We’ll take a look midweek and see where he is when we get ready to start practicing on Wednesday. We’ll see what happens.”

Rookie RB Donald Brown missed Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury.

“He’s certainly coming along, making real good strides,” Caldwell said. “We’ll just have to wait and see.”

The other injury of note Sunday was to the elbow of LB Tyjuan Hagler. Second-year LB Philip Wheeler played and registered three tackles with a quarterback hurry. It was the first significant NFL playing time for the 2008 second-round draft selection.

“He came in and from what I saw on film, did a decent job,” coach Jim Caldwell. “Who knows? He may be required to do a little more here in the future.”

  1. [...] • Let’s read the early tea leaves with the Colts this week: things look encouraging with Donald Brown(notes) (shoulder), not so much with Anthony Gonzalez(notes) (knee). At least that’s what we got from the Jim Caldwell quotes at this link, your take might be different. In the meantime, keep rolling with Austin Collie(notes) until we tell you to stop.
