The status of Indianapolis Colts RB Donald Brown remains uncertain, and WR Austin Collie appears in good shape, Head Coach Jim Caldwell said Monday.
Collie, the Colts’ fourth-round selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, ”appears to be doing fine,” Caldwell said Monday, a day after the Colts’ 20-17 victory over the Houston Texans Sunday. Caldwell said there was no update yet on the status of Brown, the team’s first-round selection this past April.
Collie left Sunday’s game with a neck injury, and Caldwell said his status for the week isn’t yet known. Brown, who practiced Wednesday and Thursday before not participating Friday, missed a second consecutive game Sunday with a shoulder injury sustained against St. Louis on October 25.
“He’s feeling better,” Caldwell said of Brown as the Colts (8-0) began early preparations to play host to the New England Patriots (6-2) at Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday night. “We’ll see come Wednesday exactly what happens.”
Also Monday, Caldwell said OG Kyle DeVan “played steady” in his first career start Sunday. DeVan, who signed in offseason from Arena Football League 2, started ahead of 2008 second-round selection Mike Pollak Sunday.
Caldwell also said the Colts may consider signing a defensive back after placing S Bob Sanders and CB Marlin Jackson on injured reserve last week.
