As Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell sees it, the work’s far from over.
Caldwell, in his first season as head coach, attended the Colts’ final full-team media session in preparation for Super Bowl XLIV Thursday morning, making it clear there is more to be done before the team plays the New Orleans Saints at Sun Life Stadium Sunday.
“The hay’s not in the barn,” Caldwell said during a meeting with the media Thursday morning. “We have to be sharp and crisp. I think that’s important.”
Caldwell will speak to the media again at a press conference featuring he and Saints Head Coach Sean Payton Friday morning, but Thursday morning’s session was the last time Colts players will be available to the media before Sunday. The Colts practice Thursday afternoon at the Miami Dolphins’ training facility.
The Colts installed most of their game plan last week, Caldwell said.
Caldwell also said DE Dwight Freeney remains day to day with the ankle injury sustained in the AFC Championship Game. He did not practice last week or Wednesday and Caldwell said more likely will be known as the week continues.
“It kind of depends on how he feels and what the doctors think,” Caldwell said. “We kind of go with the flow.”
Also, rookie CB Jerraud Powers is moving “a lot better” after missing the AFC Championship Game with a foot injury, Caldwell said.
“He looks pretty good,” Caldwell said. “We’ll see.”
