The Indianapolis Colts and Gary Brackett didn’t quite reach their deadline. No matter.
Brackett’s staying with the team anyway.
Brackett, an eight-year veteran and the team’s starting middle linebacker, has agreed to terms on a five-year contract with the Colts, the Indianapolis Star reported on Friday morning. The sides had negotiated throughout the past few weeks and late into Thursday night with the start of the NFL’s free-agency period approaching.
The free-agency period officially began at 12:01 p.m. Friday, and while the Associated Press reported shortly thereafter that a deal was not done, various news outlets reported throughout Thursday evening the deal was close.
Early Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter and the Star reported deal was reached, with Schefter reporting the deal is worth $33 million with a $12 million signing bonus.
